Information About Spanish Fort, Alabama
Five Rivers—Alabama’s Delta Resource Center
At the meeting points of the Mobile, Spanish, Tensaw, Apalachee, and Blakely Rivers sits the 81 acre Five Rivers Delta Center. The center has guided tours at the Apalachee Exhibit Hall and Little Baleau Learning Center. See the outdoors on a Delta Safari Cruise, rented canoe or kayak, or hiking one of the Five Rivers’ nature trails. Five Rivers hosts weddings, corporate events, birthday parties, and educational field trips. There is both fishing in the water or along the banks and camping nearby along with several seafood dining establishments along the causeway.
The best way to see the Delta and alligators in their natural habitat is by taking a tour with Airboat Express. Airboat Express offers three tours. The Eco tour is a one-hour airboat ride through a maze of tall grasses where the captain shares his or her knowledge about the flora and fauna of the delta. The shorter ½ hour Fun Run takes you speeding around the Delta for a quicker but more exciting look at the area.
There is very little education that occurs on this tour, but the twists and turns racing through the Delta make up for it. The ½ hour night tour, also known as the Alligator Adventure. This is the only tour that guarantees alligator sightings, as it is their feeding time and they are more likely to be active. On any of the tours, it is likely that you will see numerous alligators ranging in sizes from hatchlings to the 13’ Monster that roams the Delta.
