Pest Control Myths
A myth is easy to believe, especially when it is pushed on social media posts and shared like the common cold. For someone dealing with pests of any kind, finding the right solution is better than chasing down myths that will produce poor results. While the myths may partially work, many find themselves still seeking advice from pest control specialists. Rather than spend time and money trying to rid yourself of unwanted pests, it is better to contact a pest control specialist who has the right tools and treatments to ensure your pests have been removed and will not return.
Myth: Cheese works best for mouse traps.
While cartoons have convinced us that a block of cheese is the best bait for mice, it is not nearly as effective as high-sugar foods like cookies and cereal. However, mice will ultimately eat anything that they can find, which is why so many people believe cheese is the best solution. Plug, cheese is easier to put on a trap as it sticks better than cereal or cookies.
Myth: Cleaning daily will prevent bed bug infestations.
We are not against a clean house, but bed bugs can find their way into your clean home through many other avenues including backpacks, suitcases, and clothing. Once they have found their way into your home, they will look for a food source. And while you have a clean home, they could still find a food source (i.e. you, your pets). Bed bugs feed on blood and humans and pets provide more than enough for them to want to stay. You can clean your home frequently, and you should, but it will not prevent bed bug infestations.
Myth: Stinging insects like wasps and bees will only sting when bothered.
Our definition of bothering a stinging insect is not the same as theirs. Stinging insects are much more sensitive to movement and will do anything to protect their colony/nest. Understand that if you can see their nest, you are probably too close for them and they might sting.
Myth: Clean homes do not have rats or mice.
Again, the idea of a clean home keeping out pests is pure myth. While you can do everything right, rats and mice will find whatever you forget. It could be the garbage cans that have not been closed properly or food left out overnight; rats and mice do not care where it comes from as they are scavengers of opportunity.
