Information About Foley, Alabama
Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge
The Gulf Coast is both home and stopping grounds for many birds and endangered animals and the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, just outside of Foley Alabama offers refuge to all wildlife that arrives. Over 360 bird species have been seen on the refuge with many of them coming during the spring and fall migrating periods. Bon Secour is a natural nesting ground for endangered sea turtles and the Alabama beach mouse. Get a map and information about the flora and fauna at the visitor’s center. Then take a walk along one of the trails or see the site by canoe or kayak. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture a shot of the view and the wildlife. Fishermen can expect to find both salt and freshwater fish in the Gator Lake.
Just a few miles north of Foley in Summerdale, Alabama is Alligator Alley where you can take and educational guided tour of alligators in their natural habitat surrounded by other wildlife such as turtles, osprey, owls, and bullfrogs. The site has over 450 hatchlings and mature gators. After the tour, visit the gator station where you can hold a baby alligator and get all your gator questions answered. You can even feed the gators during their regular feeding times at 11 am, 1 pm, and 4 pm.
One of Foley’s main attractions is the Tanger Outlet Mall. The mall is a bargain hunter’s heaven with shops like Carter’s, Ralph Lauren, and Coach. Don’t forget to join the Tanger Club to get exclusive offers and additional discounts on outlet purchases. If you need to refuel, stop by the food court where you can enjoy a bite to eat and let the kids take a ride on the merry-go-round.
The only acceptable food fight is Lambert’s food fight. Well, not quite, but Lamberts is known as the “home of the thrown rolls” where waiters toss rolls across a crowded restaurant for diners to catch, where molasses is flung on your plate, and where children are handed fishnets to catch their warm rolls. Lambert’s is crowded all the time because it’s a fun place to eat, and the food is good too. They serve home-style southern meals such as fried chicken and catfish, meatloaf, and country ham steak. They even offer deep fried frog legs that taste just like chicken for those willing to try something different. Side dishes are served table-side and available for you to select at your desire as servers walk around the restaurant carrying bowls of fried potatoes, macaroni and tomatoes, black-eyed peas, and other southern side selections.
